To feel what you have missed, step out from what you have

I arrived yesterday in Bali for Yoga Teacher Training with Arvind, another Yoga teacher from Samyak Yoga. The training starts tomorrow and these two days are for us to settle down.. A new place, a different society, different set of people with their own culture and lifestyles is something that amuses me all the time. Bali did the same too. We were comparing our villages and cities of India, the other cities that we have been to that of Bali, trying to figure out the differences and similarities. It led me to a deep introspection and that led me to the following thoughts...

Desa Mungu Village Entrance

Next to "Kura Kura Yoga Retreat" where in our teacher training starts tomorrow, there is a tiny village called "Desa Mungu". A walk on the roads was so refreshing and expressing how a simple life is so luxurious. People were sitting on a small shop, chatting and laughing loudly while a group of ladies were carrying vegetables and other stuff together. There was another bunch of people in a big hall, next to a temple preparing food. They did not seem like the workers, but the villagers working altogether for the lunch that might be served at the temple.

The whole atmosphere did not have a "racing life" and they were not running for their achievements, to earn a lot of money  or to get recognized as a professional. But they seemed to be happy, content and caring for each other. They seem to have all the time in the world, which we do not have in the cities for anything.

You can not really feel what you might miss from your daily life until you step out from yours and try to understand the world outside. You might be doing something, having a carrier, reaching targets and achieving "something" in life as this is how the society where we live in functions. But there are other life styles adapted by the sections of society which are calm, stress-free, beautiful and in tune with the nature. We just need to step out from our lives and step into their shoes.

The life here in Desa Mungu is much similar to the villages in India. They have temples in every room, then for every house, foe every village and on... The vibes in the nature is calm and does not ask for the competition. Every body is equal and respected for the way they are. In the name of all the achievements, money and fame, this is what we desire for, right?

There is a lot to unlearn from what we have already learnt. So let us learn to unlearn.
